Tennis great Author Ashe once said,
Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.”
While this is a great quote, and probably makes a terrific bumper sticker, it is not always the easiest thing to remember. When I am chasing success, I often wish I could jump ahead to when I am at an advanced stage or level.
And given the following World of Warcraft commercial, I can’t be the only one to have this thought.
The commerical ends with the line,
Boost to level 90 instantly”
I have never played World of Warcraft, so I am not completely sure what it means to boost to level 90. But I can guess that the game provides some type of code that allows you to jump ahead and skip some of the early levels. People must like to be able to boost to level 90, if the game’s makers decided to include it in the commercial.
I remember a similar aspect to the Nintendo game Mike Tyson’s Punchout. You could enter a code and skip directly to the end fight against the Iron Mike himself.
As a kid, using this code was great. It wasn’t impossible to get to the Tyson fight without the code, but using the code was certainly easier. Without the code, the game took time. You had to struggle through a number of fighters and you probably faced a set back or two.
Who wouldn’t want to bypass all that and get right to the crowning moment??
Playing World of Warcraft or Mike Tyson’s Punchout is very different from chasing your dream. In life there is no cheat code that allows us to skip to the end. As hard as it may be to accept, we cannot boost instantly to level 90.
We can’t skip the early levels. We will have to struggle through our own versions of Don Flamenco and Soda Popinski and we may face a set back or two.
